So, a little backround. I've owned snakes before, i really like them. The first one was a ball python that just got sick one summer, poor thing. He died, but i really liked him coral snakes so me and my boyfriend got a baby corn snake. During a power outage that was several days long, it was really cold so we asked a friend with power to keep the how to get rid of snakes snake at his house, and his stupid cat attacked the container he was in and either the snake escaped somewhere in his house or became cat food. Again, liked the snake but bad circumstances.
This snake, however is not a nice pet snake. My BF got it at petco, and they sold us the wrong kind of snake, its something from florida though, a kind of rat snake, we think. But its very mean, its skittish and bites and generally acts like a wild snake, i dont think it was captive bred. She's mean, i cant even pick her up without her flailing and trying to bite me. So donating it to a science class seems out of the question.
I'm in NH so, even if it is a wild snake its not like i can just let it go. I live in NH the thing would freeze, and im pretty sure it's illegal anyways. Ive had it way too long to give back to the store. Do you know if animal shelters take pet snakes? What would happen if i did just let it go, its summer, would it just slither back down south?
I really, really just dont want this snake anymore. I'm not a very good owner to it, and it's way too.. scary to try to domesticate it. help?
